dbCANary Flasher beta
Put firmware on a dbCANary over its USB-C port, straight from this tab. The images are checked here and written by your browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
1 · Connect the unit
- Plug the unit's USB-C port into this computer. That powers it too.
- Press Connect and pick USB JTAG/serial debug unit (Espressif, 303a:1001).
No port listed, or it will not connect?
A unit running the USB network firmware turns its USB-C port into a network adapter 8 seconds after it boots, and from then on there is no serial port to find. Either press Connect within those 8 seconds of plugging it in, or put it in download mode:
- Hold BOOT (SW302).
- Tap EN (SW301).
- Release BOOT and press Connect.
In download mode the unit stays put until it is flashed or reset, so there is no rush.
2 · Choose firmware
From an ESP-IDF build directory: bootloader/bootloader.bin,
partition_table/partition-table.bin, ota_data_initial.bin and
dbcanary.bin. Or just dbcanary.bin to replace the app on its own.
Each file is identified by its contents, not its name, and put at the offset its kind belongs at.

3 · Flash
Off: the unit keeps its settings (name, port, LAN address) and its stored crash log. On: it comes back on factory defaults. Use this to recover a unit whose settings or OTA state you do not trust.
Serial console
Watch the unit boot. Opening the port resets the unit. On the USB network firmware the console goes quiet 8 seconds after boot, when the port becomes a network adapter.
